Graduation Requisites

Graduation Requisites

Twenty-three credits in the following subjects are needed to meet graduation requirements for a Standard Diploma:

STANDARD DIPLOMA

Mathematics 3
Science 2
* Physical Education 2
U.S. History 1
U.S. Government 1
** Arts/Humanities or CTE Course 1
Health 1/2
*** Use of Computers 1/2
Electives 8
TOTAL 23

*          Participation in and completion of a J.V./Varsity sports season, cheerleading season, and/or drill team season allows a student to waive one quarter (1/4) P.E. credit.  Maximum of one full P.E. credit can be waived.

Examples:

A student complete a volleyball season, cheerleading (volleyball season), basketball season, and cheerleading (basketball season) to waive a total of one credit.     Or….

A student could play J.V. Basketball their Freshmen year, Drill Team season (Volleyball) and Drill Team season (Basketball) their Sophomore year, and Varsity Softball their Junior year and waive one full credit total.

**        All Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses or what is commonly known as vocational courses can be used as a Humanities credit.

***      Satisfactory completion of a semester computer literacy course offered in grades 6, 7, or 8 will meet the requirement for the use of computers.

Note: To receive a diploma from a Nevada high school, students must pass the Nevada High School Proficiency Examination in addition to meeting course requirements. Students in the Class of 2010 and beyond must pass reading, writing, math, and science. Any student who completes course requirements but does not pass the Nevada High School Proficiency Examinations will receive a Certificate of Attendance rather than a diploma.
